My why.
Updated: Nov 26, 2019
I often get the questions from clients, "What made you want to become a photographer?" and "How did you get started in photography?", so I figured I would use 'My Why' as my very first blog post. That's right Y 'all, I'm dipping my toes into the world of blogging because, why not? I haven't been one to love writing and if you want to find out why, keep reading. I'm sure you will be bored to death by the end of this. ANYWAYS, lets get started.
HI, I'm Kelsey! I have started my photography business Kelsey B Photography named after me. I used my name. Simple to remember, so don't forget it! So the reason I started Kelsey B Photography is simply put, its my passion. I have always loved photography. I know what you're thinking... "that's what ALL photographers say". But its true. My passion began as a little girl probably about the age of eight or so. I received my first ever camera, a film camera. You know, the kind that after taking your 12 or so pictures, you put it back inside the black film roll, you get in the car and drop it off at CVS or Walmart to have developed. No? Having a hard time remembering? Well, I don't! It's because it felt like a lifetime to get those pictures back! But I think this is why I have such a passion. I knew I wanted to see what I photographed, so having to wait made me so anxious which in turn made me excited.
I can remember many times where I would hire my sister Emily (Probably 5 or 6 years old at the time) for before and after pictures. I would dress her down in terrible outfits, make her hair a mess and put ridiculous looking makeup on her to make that her before picture. I would snap a photo and then begin her "make- over". Dressed in a beautiful outfit, hair curled and makeup beautified, I would snap another picture. This was her after picture. You want to know the best part of all of this? We waited like what, 7-10 DAYS to get the pictures developed and returned to us. Who loves the world of digital photography? I DO! Also, you know what? Hey Emily, I have some awesome blackmail stored away somewhere. :)
My passion for photography always was there even though for several years I didn't do anything with it. I didn't know how to begin, get my name out there and where to all start. But the internet is an amazing place for resources, so I began researching. I decided to research for my very first DSLR camera, and I finally was able to make the purchase four years ago. With this, my talent grew quickly and I was able to practice and figure out my style.
So after having my second daughter I decided to take photography seriously and begin my little journey as business owner. I practiced constantly taking pictures of my daughters and working on posing. I really love documenting every little moment I can so that one day I will remember every little detail that I may otherwise forget. That's the point of photography after all. My passion will always be for photography. Its something I know I cherish very much and I know most people do too. Having portraits taken is an investment, I get that, but its an investment that you and many generations after you will cherish always.
Hopefully you read through my first blog post and didn't get bored. But if you did, I don't blame you HAHA. But lets see where this goes. Who knows, maybe blogging was meant for me! I know photography is.
